plotting against his brother James Frain as a sultan in one of Scheherazade's tales in Arabian Nights. The sultan and two aids disquised as commoners, go outside the palace. Inside a tavern, the sultan meets a drunk beggar played by Dougray Scott
Having tricked the drunk into thinking he himself is sultan, the real sultan enjoys the jest hidden among his court In another scene from the tale......... ....the sultan spies on his joke....... ....from behind the wall.
The sultan disquised as a palace guard the sultan, tired of the jest, decides to return the drunk to his reality. Returned to his proper place, the sultan enjoys a good laugh at his joke. The sultan is again disquised, visiting the beggar who has ended up in the palace dungeon.
the sultan decides to play the joke again and has the beggar drugged and returned to the palace as the sultan. the beggar, as sultan, believes he is going mad and runs to kill 'the demon' he hears taunting him from behind a screen. The 'demon' falls out from his hiding place. It is the sultan, now come to a bad end from his cruel jest.
The moral of the story ~~ 'Never tell the same joke twice.' Schahzenan promising to the corpse of his dead love to avenge her death Schahzenan in his encampment outside Bagdad, stroking the head of the corpse of his beloved 'Soon my Love', he promises his revenge.
Dougray Scott and Mili Avital as Schahriar and Scheherazade Schahzenan emerges from his tent, finding his army under attack by his brother. The brothers face off. The fight is on.........
....sabars clash...... .....Schahzenan falls..... .....now it is Schahriar's turn to defend himself.... ....heart full of revenge, Schahzenan lunges to attack Schariar.....
....pinned to the ground, Schariar manages to pull a bank of spears towards them...... .......Schariar flings Schahzenan skyward...... .....into the fallen spears...... The sibling rivarly comes to a tragic conclusion.
