He Sleeps..........

...ZZZZZZZZZ.........

Watching some of his films again, I'm struck by how many times and many ways we've been treated to the lovely vision of James Frain sleeping.

And he does this as exquisitely as he does everything in his characters' waking moments. I love the view of his graceful arms and his hands cupped near his sculpted profile on the pillow, his gorgeous eyes with their lengthy lashes, beautiful even when closed, his whole body in repose, yet still radiating his natural, powerful presence.....

Some scenes that I remember--- As Lorimer in "Armadillo," sleeping fitfully, briefly in the big bed in his flat; or nightmarishly, bathed in gridmarked green light to the sound of beeping monitors at the sleep clinic; and finally, all secrets revealed and the woman he loves safely ensconced in the bedroom upstairs, soundly, deeply on the sofa in Silvertown.....

Again on the sofa, as Forney in "Where the Heart Is," sweetly cradling little Americus in his arms.....

Dozing in C.S. Lewis' class as Peter in "Shadowlands".....

On a prison cell bunk as Nick in "Reindeer Games".....

With a "buddy" as Julius in "The Buccaneers".....

In a solitary bed in his nasty apartment, and, later that same day, gently mid-massage on the back of a skinny "cushion" in a pure white bedroom, as Victor in "Red Meat".....

Semi-sleeping, both on a bus and then in bed, but still making his move as the adorably naughty Jack Sullivan in "What Rats Won't Do".....

Fatefully, his battles to breathe finally over, fading peacefully away as Jean Vigo..... Mmmm.

Best--
